Still waiting
So, part of my reason for doing this, aside from having no life, is that this is the first UFC I've watched in a real long time without my friend Bob.
Bob and I have been friends since we were both tackles on the Boston College High freshman football team. We've been watching Ultimate Fight since UFC 3, in 1993 or '94.
It was a deeply ingrained ritual, too. We'd go to his place in Marshfield and order a ridiculous amount of Chinese food at this place called Hung's, which despite the goofy name has about the best Chinese food in Massachusetts. Bob would always order a massive jar of duck sauce, then never use it, for some reason. You could probably fill an oil drum with the duck sauce he's wasted over the years.
Anyway, we'd gorge ourselves on Chinese food and watch UFC, a ritual that was rarely interrupted and continued straight up through UFC 52, before I moved out West.
So with my routine gone, this is here to fill the void.
I have two readers, now. My friend Steve Sears back in Boston, one of those quiet-but-dangerous types, is on IM telling me I am ripping off Sports Guy. Hey, I'm not taking anything away from Sports Guy. He's popularized the concept in recent years (though Dave Scott has surpassed him, quality-wise), but I remember when I was a kid, picking up a wrestling magazine and reading a running diary in which the writer sat at home and watched wrestling on cable all day. The "running dairy" concept is about as old as the printing press.
Yanks and Twins 3-3 in the bottom of the ninth, Twins have a runner on first with no outs.
