Bowing to Papi
*So I'm watching the end of the Sox game with my friend Derek (who grew up in the Bay Area as a Giants fan) today. Papi hits his home run to win it, then gets interviewed on field by Hazel Mae.
Derek: "Did that chick just bow to Ortiz?"
Me (pretending I didn’t see it): "I don't think so."
Derek: "No, I'm pretty sure she did."
Derek Tivos back to the interview. Hazel bows to Big Papi as he walks away.
Derek: "Man that's bad. I wouldn't expect that from Boston. Tampa or some small market, maybe."
I didn't have anything to say to that, really.
*As it turns out, John Marzano has a blog, and he references his time subbing for Dave Valle on the Mariners radio network. Daryl from the interesting Singaporesoxfan.com site dropped me a line after reading my item on Marzano a couple days ago.
*My buddy Denis Gorman also has a blog. He works for the New York Post; we had breakfast at the Tick Tock Diner over by Madison Square Garden a couple months back. For further proof he's a good guy: As a tried-and-true Mets fan, he hates the Yankees.
*So Thursday's predictable follow-up to Wednesday's hysteria over mixed martial arts fighting in the city of Boston has turned to bigwigs in the city of Taunton, where the show will be held, vowing to stamp out MMA fighting. They can't stop Saturday's event because it is already scheduled and licensed -- and they've had shows in Taunton in the past without incident -- but want to figure out a way to ban it in the future. Nevermind these politicians are basing their opinions on bad information, so long as they get their faces on TV and names in the paper and get their little soundbites.
*Looks like I will be doing a running dairy of the UFC pay-per-view on Saturday night. I'll figure this out for sure by tomorrow.
