Intro
So why am I doing a blog?
I haven't come up with a better answer than "because everyone else is doing it" yet.
If you're reading this first post, you're probably in my inner circle of friends and family and know the basics about me. If not, my professional info is available in my profile.
I've been trying to figure out how to focus this site. Anyone who knows me knows I have a pretty eclectic collection of interests and worldviews. I'm from Boston and live in Seattle. I might post about the Red Sox sometimes. Might post about Seattle sports (and about things like how Seattle sports fans claim things like "East Coast bias" with a straight face, even after UW basketball got seeded No. 1 in the NCAAs and couldn't get past the Sweet 16; and even after USC was voted No. 1 in the AP football poll two years in a row. And you can't even kid about it, because they argue this with the humorlessness and intensity of a Biblical literalist aruging against evolution. But I digress).
I also might use this as a serious professional forum at times. I'd like to get a set of regular features up and running in time. But I might make wiseass comments about whatever's on my mind on any particular subject. Depends.
For sure, I am going to write about the fast-growing sport of mixed martial arts in general and the Ultimate Fighting Championships in particular, and about pro wrestling (I have a vote in the Wrestling Observer Hall of Fame), two particular areas of interest, as it see fit.
(Tangent: I'm watching the Sox on the DirecTV baseball package and Edgar Renteria just drilled one to deep center, but David Newhan just robbed him of an extra-base hit. I think that was the first out Renteria made in about two weeks. I was pretty vocal about never wanting to get rid of Orlando Cabrera, but I guess I gotta admit after the past week that Renteria ain't so bad after all. Then again I griped about Matt Clement after his first outing, too ...).
Throw together all of the above subjects and you have a pretty bizarre mismash, so I'm just going to take things as they go and see how this all works out.
I've decided to shut off the "comments" section of blogspot. I just don't have the energy for that. But feel free to drop me a line through the email contact link to the left if you're so moved.
(Late edit: The spellchecker on blogspot didn't recognize "blog," which is pretty humorous. It also suggested changing "NCAAs" to "Nazis," which seems appropriate on some level I can't quite pinpoint.)
