The usual Saturday fare
Alright, I'm going to go out on a limb here and assume I'm the only person alive who is flipping the channels between the third round of the PGA championship and Mexican wrestling on Galavision. I'm also occasionally checking in on Mariners-Angels. Ryan Franklin's shirt is a lot looser than it was earlier in the season. And, oh man! I just caught the last split second of a Scooter demonstration. Didn't catch what pitch he was demonstrating, but I haven't seen the little fella in awhile and I'm glad to see he's getting his problems under control.
The color commentator just said "the fan support here in Seattle has been tremendous as they build a winning tradition." I guess that sounds better than "no one paid attention to baseball in Seattle until the Mariners started winning, interest dropped off the minute they stopped winning, and now they're stuck with a half-billion dollar bill for a stadium they voted against."
As for the ongoing travails of Dave's World Lucha Libre Champion Mistico, this week features a tag team match with Mistico and Doctor Wagner against Ultimo Guerrero and his partner in crime, Rey Bucanero. (Guerrero, Bucanero and their various associates are to CMLL what the Four Horsemen were back in the 80s; and the NWO was in WCW in the 90s). (Strike that. Guerrero's crew are kickass performers in the ring, which makes them entirely unlike the NWO. But the Horsemen analogy stands). (It should also be noted that like with the Horsemen, a noticeable portion of the crowd is rooting for the bad guys). Last week, Mistico ended up carried out of the ring on a stretcher after a brutal attack by UG, and Wagner retaliated by beating the tar out of UG. Thus, this week's tag team match.
No particular histrionics this time, as Mistico and Wagner score the victory in three falls with clean pins at the end. Mistico is now 4-0 against Guerrero in various match formats over the past four weeks, which constitutes a sweep in any sport. UG seems to understand this, because he's yelling at Wagner on the mic after the match instead of Mistico. The announcers keep yelling "Italiano! Italiano!" for no apparent reason.
I cannot tell a lie, folks. With each passing week, I find myself enjoying Ultimo Guerrero and Rey Bucanero more and more. Probably because Mistico somehow wins every week without fail. I might be in the first stage of changing my allegiances, here.
