Podsednik punched
So, did y'alls see Scott Podsednik get punched in the face by a Yankees fan as he reached into the crowd and made a catch at Yankee Stadium last night? No? Funny how that works.
I was dozing off on the couch watching the late edition of SportsCenter last night when they aired the replay as a footnote to the Yankees-White Sox game highlights. The anchor basically blew it off with, and this isn't an exact quote but I'm just capturing the basic tone: "Isn't that cute? The guy drilled him in the face -- and he still made the catch!"
And that was it. Never mentioned again.
Now, if we rewind to April, when Gary Sheffield had his incident in the right field corner at Fenway, SportsCenter acted as if it was roughly the equivalent of the OJ murder. (And even more absurdly, Sheffield was lauded for his "great restraint." Turning around and taking a swing at someone while still holding a ball that was in play is "great restraint.")
Yankees fan nails an opponent with a clear shot to the face, in an incident far more clear-cut than the Fenway occurrence? Not an issue.
