No thanks, Yanks
So, a couple weeks ago, the Yankees were rounding up scrubs and has-beens at an alarming/amusing rate depending on one's perspective, in a desperate attempt to find pitching somewhere (ya know, Oil Can Boyd is 3-3, 4.00 ERA in 10 starts for the Brockton Rox so far, maybe his phone will ring soon).
Now things have taken a new twist. Journeyman reliever Dennis Reyes, released last month by the Padres (5.15 ERA, 2.04 WHIP and 57 hits allowed in 43 innings) has decided to stay home in Mexico rather than go play for the Yankees, according to one published report. Perhaps he talked to Buddy Groom before he made his decision.
By the way, the Blue Jays were supposed to wither away with Roy Halladay hurt, but it is the first week of August and they're still lurking on the fringes of the races, like they have all season, six back in the A.L. East and 4 1/2 back in the wild card. And Halladay could return as soon as this weekend.
