Boone
So ESPN, of course, just had to show the clip of Aaron Boone's 2003 home run, as Boone stepped up to face Tim Wakefield. No surprise there, ESPN's Sox broadcasts this year have seemed adrift now that they can no longer plausibly show Buckner and Babe highlights over and over and over, so of course they immediately latch on to their binky when they get the chance.
But then Gary Thorne basically said that Bronson Arroyo hit Boone on purpose on Monday in retaliation for the home run.
Right.
Arroyo didn't hit Boone the first time up, when he led off the third in a scoreless game. Nope. He waited until there were two outs in the fourth and three runs were in before extracting his revenge. Pretty canny move on his part.
But hey, don't let the facts get in the way of a soundbyte, video clip, and pre-planned storyline.
